Australia's captain Poised for a Major Role in the Ashes

Test match action

The pace bowler has claimed over 300 dismissals in 71 Test matches with an stellar bowling average.

The Australian selection chief the selector has declared that pace spearhead Cummins will play a "major part" in the upcoming historic rivalry.

Rumors had circulated that the veteran bowler might miss the series due to a stress fracture in his back that remained unresolved.

Initial reports from the squad suggested no definitive call had been made regarding whether he would play, with the Test matches set to start on the 21st of November in the WACA.

Bailey expressed that his recovery is on track and was "optimistic" about the prospects of taking part.

"We're aware that time is getting short and there are permutations involved, not just his injury, but additional elements," Bailey remarked.

"The outlook is good. There's strong faith that he'll participate in a key capacity. Ideally starting in Perth. If not, we'll reassess."

Past Concerns

He was sidelined the white-ball matches against India and New Zealand last month after medical tests showed a lumbar bone stress.

Previous incidents include of spinal problems, with flare-ups in several earlier campaigns forcing him out of three Australian summers in a limited period.

He emphasized he would be ""aggressive" and "take risks" in his rehabilitation process to secure his spot for the series.

The selector indicated that he did not know if the captain had resumed bowling as part of his comeback but conceded it was "getting tight" for him to regain fitness for the initial match.

Alternative Arrangements

In case of absence, former captain Steve Smith will take over the captaincy.

Versatile player Green was excluded lately from the ODI lineup for their limited-overs matches against the subcontinent side as a preventive step because of discomfort in his torso.

He labeled it as a "minor" injury and mentioned that Green will play in the Sheffield Shield, so will be "well-prepared to deliver overs."

"Considerable effort has gone into creating the schedule for him to take part for the opening match as an batting and bowling option," the selector detailed.

"His involvement was limited to the starting games regardless. How he handles the cricket bat in white-ball cricket, should it hinder progress for 24 more hours, the choice was made to approach this more conservatively."
